(By Windermere train station, you will pass Booths Supermarket, which is the biggest and best in the Lake District, if you need to stop to buy some food). Drive through Ambleside, signposted Grasmere. As you enter Grasmere, at the roundabout by the Wordsworth Museum, turn left and follow the road through the village; it bends round to the right, by the Red Lion Hotel. Almost immediately after this, opposite Sams Bookshop, turn left, signposted Easedale Tarn. Follow for ½ mile, turn right just after a small bridge and just before a “no access for traffic” sign and follow for 300 yards. Rockwood is on the right, behind a white gate. Please enter the house through the back door. Cottage Facilities: TV, CD player, iron and board, dishwasher, washing machine, drier, hair driers, heating. No telephone. Other Information: No pets unless by prior arrangement. No smoking. Maximum 3 cars allowed. Nearest Food Shop: Co-Op in Grasmere, left by Sams Bookshop. Best one is Booths in Windermere. Nearest Chemist: Left by Sams Bookshop Nearest Newsagent: Left by Sams Bookshop Nearest Post Office: Straight over by Sams Bookshop Nearest Petrol: On A591, on way out of Ambleside Nearest Bank/ATM: Barclays and Natwest in Ambleside Nearest Tourist Information : Ambleside Walking Directions To Pubs: Travellers Rest, children friendly. Turn right out of Rockwood to the end of the lane; turn right over bridge, to top of lane, T junction with A591; turn right. 15 minutes walk The Lamb: By the Red Lion Hotel in Grasmere. Not so children friendly, 10 minutes walk.
